Local SEO
You do not have one ranking. You have a different one on every street.
Local results are calculated from where the searcher is standing. You can be first from your own car park and invisible in the suburb where most of your customers live, and a single average position across the city hides exactly that.
How local ranking works
Three factors, and only two of them are yours to move
Proximity
How close the searcher is to you. It is the factor you cannot change and the one that explains most of why your ranking looks different from one street to the next. Everything else is about compensating for it.
Relevance
How well your profile and site match what was typed. Categories, services and the wording on your pages decide whether Google even considers you for a search, which is why a wrong primary category quietly costs more than almost anything else.
Prominence
How established you look across the web. Review volume and recency, citation consistency, links, and how much your site is actually visited. This is the slow one, and it is where most of the durable advantage is built.
Proximity is fixed. You cannot move your premises closer to every customer, and nobody can sell you a way around that. The work is in relevance and prominence, which is why local SEO is mostly profile accuracy, review behaviour, citation consistency and the slow accumulation of authority rather than a trick anyone is keeping from you.
Measurement
A map, not a number
We scan your ranking from dozens of points across your service area using Local Falcon and draw the result as a grid. Green where you are in the pack, red where you are not. It turns local visibility into something you look at rather than something you are told, and it makes progress impossible to dress up: either the red squares turned green or they did not.
It is also how we decide where to spend effort. If you are already dominant within two miles and invisible at five, that is a different problem from being mid-pack everywhere, and the two need different work.
What the work consists of
Local visibility is assembled from parts rather than bought as one thing. The Google Business Profile is the single biggest lever, because categories, services, posts and review responses all live inside it. Citations reinforce that you are one real business at one real address, and inconsistency between them quietly suppresses the whole thing.
Underneath the map pack sit the ordinary organic results, which are driven by the website and are covered by our SEO plans. Local work is built into those plans from the Growth tier upward rather than sold as a separate retainer. And whichever part produces the call, call tracking is what tells you it was this and not something else.
Questions we get asked
Because proximity is one of the strongest local ranking factors, and you are physically closest to yourself. Local results are calculated from where the searcher is standing, so your ranking is not one number, it is a different number on every street. A geo-grid is the only honest way to see that.
Harder, and anyone promising it easily is overselling. Google weights proximity heavily, so ranking in the map pack in a town you have no presence in is genuinely difficult. What does work is building organic pages for those areas and accepting that the map pack in your own area is where the fastest wins are.
Yes. Service area businesses can hide the street address on the profile and define the areas served instead. It is a supported setup and a common one for trades. What you cannot do is invent an address or rent a mailbox to fake a location, which risks the listing being suspended.
Enough to not look thin next to whoever currently occupies the three spots you want, which means the honest answer depends on your market rather than a universal number. Recency matters as much as volume: a business with forty reviews from this year usually looks stronger than one with ninety that stopped three years ago.
It is a part of it rather than a separate service. The map pack is driven by the profile, reviews, citations and proximity, while the organic results below it are driven by the site itself. Most businesses need both, which is why local work is built into the plans rather than sold alongside them.
Profile and category corrections can show within weeks because they change relevance directly. Prominence, which means reviews, citations and links, moves over months. Anyone quoting you a date is guessing, because the timing belongs to Google rather than to whoever you hire.
